Custom Crystal Glass Commissions

Crystal glass for trade, companies, and bespoke commissions

OertelCrystal supports specialist retailers, companies, and clients with custom crystal glass projects. Our focus lies in design, refinement, and careful coordination with the respective range, occasion, or design task.

Whether a monogram, an engraved coat of arms, bespoke decoration or a project-specific commission, every piece is shaped by the interplay of material, craftsmanship and precise design.

To bring these projects to life, OertelCrystal works with specialised workshops, glass finishers and skilled craftspeople.

Traditional Techniques

The following techniques are central to the finishing and decoration of crystal glass. They are selected according to the design, the individual piece and the desired effect.

Handmade Crystal Glass

Everything begins with the crystal glass itself. Its clarity, shape, wall thickness and balance determine the character of the finished piece. Skilled production by hand provides the foundation for every subsequent stage – from cutting and engraving to painting and gilding.

Precise Glass Cutting

Crystal glass is decorated through precisely executed cuts, facets and ornamental patterns. The piece shown is a reproduction of a historic Japanese glass design and demonstrates the precision this technique demands. When the cut lines, facets and transitions align perfectly, the exceptional accuracy of the craftsmanship becomes apparent.

Fine Glass Engraving

Glass engraving involves cutting ornaments, lines, lettering and figurative motifs into the surface of the glass. Monograms and coats of arms can also be created using this technique. It requires draughtsmanship, precision and a confident understanding of depth and the play of light.

Glass Painting and Gilding

Glass painting involves applying enamel colours or precious metals to the glass, which are then fired onto the surface. This creates delicate ornaments, floral motifs and decorative accents. The technique combines artistic design with skilled craftsmanship and gives the crystal glass its distinctive character.

Oroplastik Relief Gilding

In the Oroplastik technique, a design is first etched into the surface of the glass, creating a delicate relief structure. A gold-bearing medium is then applied and fired onto the glass. During firing, the oils burn away while the gold bonds permanently with the surface. The raised areas are subsequently polished to a high shine, while the recessed areas retain a matt finish. This creates the distinctive interplay of relief, light and gold.

OertelCrystal has been known for this elaborate decorative glass technique for more than a century.

Bespoke Sandblasted Designs

In sandblasting, selected areas of the glass surface are frosted with the aid of stencils. This creates clearly defined contours, subtle contrasts and a restrained, graphic effect. The technique is particularly suited to floral motifs, ornaments and larger decorative areas.
